The modern songbirds croon and their sounds are heavy
Matching the low hum of the bees,
Who weave in and out and in and out
Their tune is tinder to the summer’s wind
Little kingdoms,
Drumbeats break and sound – vibrating miles from their backs
The tiny warriors.

“These are the seductive voices of the night; the Sirens, too, sang that way. It would be doing them an injustice to think that they wanted to seduce; they knew they had claws and sterile wombs, and they lamented this aloud. They could not help it if their laments sounded so beautiful.”
Franz Kafka, Parables

The daughter of spring grows from the ground, upward by the earth & the rain…
Persephone
In Greek mythology, Persephone was the embodiment of the Earth’s fertility at the same time that she was the Queen of the Underworld, the korē (or young maiden), and the parthenogenic daughter of Demeter and, in later Classical myths, a daughter of Demeter and Zeus. In the Olympian version, she also becomes the consort of Hades when he becomes the deity that governs the underworld.

a bike made for two
March 29, 2009
Last year my birthday gift from Gabriel was an old school tandem bicycle. Last week it was unusually warm so we took a long bike ride into town and had a picnic, here are the photos :)
The film turned out kind of crazy! I edited some of them (which I almost never do with film) to make them black and white. I can’t wait to shoot us again this summer when the trees are green!
